Fitted for Love, Changing the World

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to love another so much you’d stop at nothing to bring them joy endlessly? Maybe you haven’t wondered this. But maybe you’ve wondered what it would be like to be loved with a love that would stop at nothing to bring you joy endlessly. Is that hitting closer to home?

CREATED FOR LOVE
Creator God created us and placed us on planet Earth to love us with this kind of love. He created us for union with Him. Yes, humanity was meant, from the beginning of time, to enjoy unimaginable love from God. And in turn, God has always longed to find reception in the heart of man, to live, to love, and to know.

Today on the blog, we’re going to examine the love of God for us—fallen, wounded humans. We’re going to discover that we were made for His love and His love is especially for us—passionate, rich, perfect, unending, abundant, and intimately near.

Perhaps it seems I’ve been touting God’s love a lot around here, but the truth is, in it, I have found my Life. And in it, I know you can find your Life too!

THE GREAT LOVE GIFT
To begin our discussion of His love, we need to consider the fact that God sent His only begotten Son for us. This concept, this idea, this truth has become such common knowledge among us that we’ve lost sight of the exceedingly high gift of love this was and is. We all long for a love that will go to any length to bring us joy endlessly. Deep down in our hearts we imagine it and long for it. This is a basic instinct in man, and living proof of it is in the fact that we hold humans up to this standard. We expect them—whether a spouse, friend, parent, child, or loved one of any kind—to love us with this kind of love. Of course none of them do, and none of them can. The highest height of human love cannot love like this. There is indeed great love among us, but it is imperfect, tarnished by the sin in our members (bodies). Yet this is precisely how God loves us.

His sending His Son was the guarantee of His everlasting love that brings endless joy. In His son God supplied Life for the dead. He supplied freedom for the bound. Jesus the Christ (meaning Messiah) was the Anointed One ministering on earth, to heal the sick, comfort the down and out, to bring joy to the mourners, love to the hopeless. He came to die and be brought to life that in Him we might die and find Life and have it more abundantly. God sent this extravagant gift, embodied in the Son of Man, because He loved us with such high love that He sought our best interest and highest joy from the beginning. The Bible tells that from the foundation of the world Jesus was predestined to come (Eph. 1:4-5, 1 Peter 1:20). That was love which predestined. That was intimate, personal love, for each one of us which predestined it. And now He’s come, and life and love and joy unending can be found. Why? All because God sent His only begotten son, because He so loved us.

LIFE TO THE FULLEST
“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, NASB). And have it abundantly. The Christ-life is always depicted in the Bible as full. It is full of Life, full of love, and full of joy. Come what may, these remain. Come rain or shine, these remain. Come hell or high water, these remain. Life, love, joy. Hear how the apostle John explained the Christ-life:

that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. (1 John 1:3-4, NKJV)

Hear again the apostle Paul write of this Life:

…to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. (Eph. 3:19)

There is no lover on planet earth that can fill you or I with the measure that God through Christ Jesus can fill you. There is no height of human experience that can match the soaring heights felt in the heart of the one filled with the fullness of God. There is no joy like it. And it is for this that Christ came for me and you.

YEARNING FOR LOVE
We yearn for this love. We seek for this love. We day dream of this love. We write movies and books and poetry and songs describing, imagining, seeking, longing, and crying out for this love. As much as we can imagine it, we cannot find it in its true, perfect, untarnished, exquisitely high form in another person. One may have the appearance of having such unearthly love, but alas, all men fall short of its perfect, pure, unattainably high form. The truth is, you and I need this love to sustain us, change us, grow us, and change the world. We desperately need it.

And we can have it!

VISION CASTING: SEEING A NEW WORLD
We’re all searching for it in another person. What if our mentalities shifted from demanding it from mankind, to taking hold of it in the only One who can supply it? What if we stopped seeing marriage as a means to find perfect love that brings us endless joy? What if we stopped seeing friendship as a means to find perfect love that brings us endless joy? What if we stopped seeing parent/child relationship as a means to find perfect love that will bring us endless joy? What if we stopped seeing owner/pet relationship as a means of finding perfect love that brings us endless joy. Ok, seriously kidding on the last one! 🙂

But can you imagine the societal and cultural shift that would take place if we as human beings channeled all our vaccuum-like need for perfect love that brings us endless joy toward God only? Can you even imagine? Friends, if we really did this, if we sought Him until we found Him in the true fullness He is and gives, our vacuums, our deep profound longings for love would be filled full. To the brim. To overflowing with endless joy.

Mankind would be let off the hook to supply this need of ours. Dissensions would cease. Bitterness would subside. Anxiety would calm. Anger and resent would fall off us, shatter into a million tiny pieces, and be swept into oblivion. Tensions would quiet. Outbursts of rage would be no more. Impatience and jealousy would no longer be things. Meanness would dissolve. Counting wrongs would accumulate to nothing. Life would be lived in a state of rest, calm, and fullness of joy!

FILLED UP TO LOVE
And oh… the love with which we could love another! With our hearts full, satisfied, and overflowing with the innate having/receiving/enjoying of God’s love comes also God’s own love within us for others. A love so pure, so high, that it expects nothing in return for it. A love so high, so pure that nothing causes it to run dry. A love so high, so pure, it sees others as God sees them—as vessels He longs to fill and love endlessly. A love so high, so pure, that it lasts forever and is eternal in very nature. This is the only way in which we can experience perfect love that brings endless joy in another human. Only, it must be immediately stated and recognized, this high, perfect love flowing from another human, is not the man’s love… it is God’s love. It is God’s love in them, flowing out of them, for you. It is yet another means through which God loves you perfectly and endlessly. And so, even in a human relationship where God’s high, perfect love is present, all attention is diverted to God, and not to the people themselves. Together these vessels in which God flows and loves, they love God and each other with the energy and power the Spirit of God alone can love. All eyes bent heavenward.

A WORD OF WARNING
In Ezekiel 28:17 we learn that Satan, who was originally an anointed cherub-angel of God, became puffed up because of his own beauty. In looking at his own greatness (which came from God), he believed a great lie—he believed he deserved more. The truth was, there was nothing more or higher that he didn’t already have in God. So he himself believed he himself could become like God (Is. 14:14). Friends, we are one deceit away from making the same mistake at all times. The truth is, we’re all born hard-wired by hell to think this exact way. Because of what happened in Eden—that great trade Adam made when he unwittingly sold mankind to be slaves of the devil, to hear his lies and do his will—we default, by way of our in-born slavery, to hearing Satan’s lies and believing they are true. We must exercise great discernment with the great aid of the great Helper, the Holy Spirit in us, to discern between good and evil in our thinking (Heb. 5:14). Let us not forget that Satan disguises evil as good and good as evil (Is. 5:20, 2 Cor. 11:14). He’s truly the great deceiver, the father of lies (John 8:44).

We are all born after the devil’s own heart. Just as he looked at his own beauty, we look at our own beauty (whether in appearance, intelligence, ethics, kindness, good taste, generosity, compassion, mercy… whatever we see as our best features) and we think we deserve better, we think we can be like God. There’s a name for this though. Jesus smelled it in the Pharisees, and He surely smells it in us all. It’s called self-righteousness. Self-righteousness is simply self-dependence. We live guided by ourselves… so we think. And we think we’re doing quite well. We think we deserve much. We think we deserve attention. We think we deserve honor. We think we deserve fame. We think we deserve a following. We think people should listen to us. We think people should adore us. We think people should dote on us. We think people should love us perfectly. We think people should bring us endless joy.

And we think our way right into being false gods who are entitled to perfect treatment, perfect love, perfect lovers, and perfect friends among mankind—all things impossible for the human race. From this, division ensues, bitterness reigns, depression takes hold, arrogance abounds, and we ourselves become the source of much unnecessary, profound pain.

FITTED FOR LOVE
So friends, lets wise-up. Let’s slow down long enough to really think through this. Let’s awake to the fundamental fact that we’re all still craving perfect love that brings us endless joy! No matter how hard and how long we look for this among mankind, we remain unfilled. No matter the height of human experience we’ve enjoyed, it doesn’t satiate our need for this! Our need for this is satiated to the full in one source alone. One. Why? Because the human race was literally created for intimate connection to this source… to this Person. We were created for the very purpose of living a divine, powerful, joyful love-life with God. As Lego bricks are created to fit with other Lego bricks, and any other brand of brick never fits quite right, we were created to fit to God… and no other connection will fit quite right.

This is why we live in tension, anxiety, depression, fear, anger, lust, deceit, jealousy, covetousness before we find His love. We’re born connected—fitted—to one we don’t fit with. Thinking his thoughts, believing his lies. Puffed up without reason, entitled to everything. And we’re miserable in him. We’re “wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked” in him (Rev. 3:17). In all honesty, we’re slaves in him. But the one we’re created for, fitted for, has come for us… Has done the work to set us free from the one we’re joined to by default of birth. Galatians 5:1 so gorgeously says, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free.” He freed us from the miserable, ill-fitting, slave-making, fear-mongering hustler we’re born connected to. And He’s freed us for freedom… for life with the wonderful, perfectly-fitted, royalty-making, love-lavishing King we were created for in the first place!

It is a high, divine thought. And it came from the high, divine Source who thought it up… and thought us up too. He created you and I for this! It’s amazing. It’s wondrous. It’s lavish! And there’s nothing like it!

TURNING OUR EYES, CHANGING THE WORLD
So would you, today, turn? Would you turn your eyes to seek after the love you were created for? Would you simply start looking, chasing after Him? It might seem like you have a lot to learn, a long road to travel before you come to know the love for which you were created… but friends, He’s closer than you know. And He’ll never ever be found, you’ll never ever be satisfied until you first turn. God promises that if we seek Him we will find Him! It’s a promise from the God who loves you and who cannot lie. Imagine how your life, your marriage, your relationships, your work, your joy would change if you found the One you were created for and who could satisfy you with fullness of love and joy endlessly? Now, imagine how the world would change if we simply turned to seek this love? The world will never change by simply changing our actions… The issue is deeper than that… and needier than that. Changed actions only last so long. The world will only ever change by hearts—one heart at a time—finding perfect love that brings endless joy. Inside fullness brings outside change. One inner man—one heart— at a time.

Oh how He loves you. Oh how He’ll fill you. Oh how you’ll have joy. Oh how you’ll be satisfied. Oh how you’ll love others. Oh how the world will change.

Have you ever seen the wonder
In the glimmer of first sight
As the eyes begin to open
And the blindness meets the light
If you have so say

CHORUS
I see the world in light
I see the world in wonder
I see the world in life
Bursting in living colour
I see the world Your way
And I’m walking in the light

VERSE 2
Have you ever seen the wonder
In the air of second life
Having come out of the waters
With the old one left behind
If you have so say

CHORUS
I see the world in light
I see the world in wonder
I see the world in life
Bursting in living colour
I see the world Your way
And I’m walking in the light

POST-CHORUS
I see the world in grace
I see the world in gospel
I see the world Your way
And I’m walking in the light
I’m walking in the wonder
You’re the wonder in the wild
Turning wilderness to wonder

If You have so say
I see the world in love
I see the world in freedom
I see the Jesus way
You’re the wonder in the wild

BRIDGE
I see the world Your way
And I’m not afraid to follow
I see the world Your way
And I’m not ashamed to say so
I see the Jesus way
And I’m walking in the light
