Today I’m thinking about all the unraveling and calamity and crisis and identity-crisis our nation, the West, indeed our whole world is experiencing in the present. It’s madness, it’s “cray cray”, as those cooler than I say.
And it’s unfathomably GEORGEOUS!!!
Such hope and light BURN–BLAZE–in my soul when I look upon the world right now.
And especially as I look upon the Church.
The Church is a mess; an ugly, gross mess right now. On so many levels. By Church, I mean the people. All of us and each of us.
So wrought with division, hatred, racism, self-righteousness, superiority-complexes, false-gospels, back-biting, tongue-lashing, gossiping, name-calling, perversion, lying, believing lies. Dead. Just. No. Life.
And it’s sublime… in the best way.
Hear me out…
I see an unraveling taking place. An identity-crisis taking place.
And here’s why it’s so beautiful:
… because of it, many are being stirred–no, propelled–into the maddest, most passionate SEARCH in their lives. And this search is what’s going to change EVERY. THING.
We’re beginning to search for WHAT WE’VE BEEN MISSING. What’s been overlooked. What’s been misunderstood.
Because it’s not working. The old standard. The accepted. The “norm”. The cultural Christianity of yesterday. Of today. It’s not working. Turns out it’s not Christianity.
If social media has done anything, it’s to make this known at maximum volume. And friends, that’s a crazy good thing!
See, we’re beginning to see it. For the first time in years. In decades. In centuries. In millennia in ways.
A great awakening is on the cusp. Eyes are just beginning to squint open. The beginning of waking is realizing we’ve been sleeping, realizing it wasn’t it.
It’s doggone humbling. It’s crazy unsettling…
Until it isn’t.
Until it’s georgeous.
And oh it’s georgeous.
This mess–this ugly, gross mess–of what we’ve made life about, Christianity about and into–is the pangs of new life about to emerge. It’s painful. It’s not fun. It’s exhausting. But LIFE is coming.
This mess is a SIGN. This horror is a SIGN.
The kingdom which came on crucifixion day…. it’s about to awaken!
Don’t be discouraged by the mess. By the horror. Be PROPELLED INTO THE SEARCH OF YOUR LIFE!!
Search for TRUTH. FIRST AND FOREMOST, go back to the beginning. Wipe the slate clean of what you already “know”, and look again!! It’s different than we thought!
It’s different than they thought, some 2,000 years ago too! Until they realized what it all meant! Till their eyes opened too!
But we must not be afraid of DIFFERENT!! We must be afraid of WRONG–of MISUNDERSTANDING the truth!! Of
But these are things the Spirit alone can teach. Don’t search alone! Search with Him! Pray before you search. Trust Him as you search. Discern His voice as you search. Let go of old ideas as you search. Then as it gets hard, confusing, new… press in harder, closer, deeper… trusting Him more… more… more.
You might not have a seminary degree. Know all the languages. Know all the schools of thought. But if you have Jesus, through His Spirit in you, then you have what you need as you study.
So let’s start over. Let’s remove blinders. Let’s remove filters. Let’s look in, deep. Chasing Him to the end… to the truth… to the REVOLUTION…
… that Christianity was meant to be!!
That Christianity IS.
These messy, ugly, terrible, horrendous, tragic days are birth pangs. They’re meant to change our course. To send us searching for the Way. The true Way. As He’s always been. Let these days, these circumstances have this effect in you.
Slow down, take time, dig in, be patient… the search takes time. Lots of time. But search. Don’t let resistance keep you from searching.
Be brave. Be strong. Be courageous…. IN CHRIST. Let HIM embolden you to search down paths, across borders, into territory you’ve never been, never been lead, never been taught. As long as He’s the one taking you…
ALL the way.
Not part of the way.
This is what has gotten us into so much trouble. Into so much calamity.
Go ALL. THE. WAY. ALL THE WAY.
TILL YOU FIND HIM… BURST WITH HIM. TILL THE KINGDOM EXPLODES AND FLOWS OUT OF YOU AS ITS MEANT TO. AS IT CAN. AS IT WILL
IF you don’t give up searching!
Let’s seek Him above all else!!
Let fear propel you to His Word. Let horror propel you to look for Him and all we’ve been missing! Let all notions of inability and insufficiency with studying the STUNNING Book of God make you CLING TIGHT IN TRUST to the Spirit to teach you as you search!!
Oh He WILL!! Oh WILL He!!
There’s no walking on water, overcoming the VAST limitations of these decaying flesh and bones, without EYES. ON HIM. HEART CLINGING FOR DEAR LIFE to THE SPIRIT OF GOD HIMSELF IN YOU!!
Search friends. THIS CLINGING-way only. Throw off the old notions, and DARE to look at the text again!! Dare to trust Him to show you what no decaying eye can see, nor decaying ear can hear, nor decaying heart can imagine. Dare to TRUST Him to unveil what He—GOD—can see, hear, and imagine!!
For in this mess, the search for Jesus the Christ is our hope. And THE VERY THING that will CHANGE everything! ALL OF US. AND ALL THE WORLD.
Don’t resist this propelling. Dig deeper. You. Yourself. Don’t look to others to dig for you. Dig. YOU, with the SPIRIT.
Go friends. Seek Him first–that is, the kingdom of God and His righteousness. HE is the kingdom. HE is your righteousness. HE is the new race that is His kingdom and His righteousness.
We’re headed toward UNION with GOD!! And it’s going to be GEORGEOUS friends!!
Take heart! Take hope! Take JOY!!! Much WONDER AND LIFE AND JOY AND PEACE AND POWER AND GOOD is to COME!! SEEK. SEEK.
“As for YOU, the anointing [aka: Holy Spirit] which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.” (1 John 2:27, emphasis and parenthesis mine)
“But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised [made clear by the Spirit]… For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him’? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14-16,emphasis and parenthesis mine)
