LITTLE WHITE LIES: I Deserve More

Once you and I begin to get a grip on who we are and how much value we have in Christ, we need to know that the enemy has not stopped working to thwart us.

Once we start believing we’re loved by God, the enemy jumps quickly to work whispering new lies we haven’t dealt with before. We’re on the other side of love now, so he’s got to come at us from a new angle. Because we haven’t done life from this side before, we don’t recognize the new deceptions as lies…

…and we’re deceived right out of freedom all over again.

I tell you friend, the enemy is absolutely relentless in his efforts to thwart our free life in Christ.

This is why we must be “shrewd as serpents.” (Matt. 10:16)

WHAT WE DESERVE

Dictionary.com defines ‘deserve’ to mean “to merit, be qualified, or have a claim to (reward, assistance, punishment, etc.) because of actions, qualities, or situation.”

The thing is, Christianity is not and has never been a system of merit gain or merit loss. Rather, it’s a profound love story, tampered with by the enemy of darkness, fought for by the King of Light, with a rescue plan that involves escape from exile, slavery, and our perpetrator’s pending doom.

TWISTING OUR WORTH

We must not allow the enemy to work into our thinking that we’re deserving of anything.

Rather, you and I are valuable. Our value comes from the fact that we were created to be God’s and that we’re in the glorified Christ.

As valuable creations of God, we are his to defend and uphold. We are his to keep and to cultivate.

See, when we know we’re highly valuable to God, our attention turns from us to him. We no longer feel we need to seize what we deserve because we trust God to handle us and our lives as his very prized possessions.

Christ… suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in his mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously(1 Peter 2:21-23)

WHAT LOVE DOES

When we live inside the very love of Jesus, we are neither defensive, protecting ourselves, nor offensive, demanding what we deserve. We’re at peace in whatever rages around us, entrusting our souls to God, the true Shepherd and Guardian of our souls (1 Peter 2:25).

Recently, I felt someone was not treating me kindly. And I felt I didn’t deserve the treatment. In the moment, I forgot what is true and stood up for myself with a snotty comment. The result? Well, I didn’t get the kindness I “deserved.”

Fighting darkness with darkness never ushers in light.

The thing is, if I had taken just a moment to turn my attention to Jesus and trust him to provide for me in that moment, he’d have quickly taken up for me. He’d have given me the words or loving actions to turn the evil away, or he’d have just stopped the unkindness without any partnership with me whatsoever.

On top of defending or protecting me, he’d have used the situation in the other person’s life. His grace at work in our lives never goes unnoticed by the ones presently hurting us. It affects them, and it draws them to his love.

Our glance toward Jesus literally has potential to change everything.

To restore anything.

IN CONCLUSION

Friends, please please live loved. Live secure in God’s profound love for you! Function from this place of high safety and security. You will never be safer than living from your dwelling in Christ in the throne room of God.

But beware of the enemy’s tactics which incite you to demand your “rights” because of “who you are”.

Instead of taking what you deserve for yourself, remember the relationship you’re in. Take a moment to turn the eyes of your heart to Jesus. Trust him to defend you, lavishly give you everything you need, and even restore the situation like he alone can.

What a great rescuer we know!

What an amazing love story this is!!

Katie
